A few months ago, my mom and I went to a new neighborhood restaurant on a recommendation (thanks, Timm!) and had a nice experience. It was so nice that we decided to go back just for mussel night. So, here’s my second post on Black Swan.

(Haha! Look at my mommy!)
Black Swan
1048 Bedford Avenue
btwn Lafayette and Clinton Place
Brooklyn, New York
Every Tuesday from 6p-8p, Black Swan has unlimited mussels for $12/person. We went back for mussels night because on our previous visit, we had the same mussels as an appetizer and enjoyed them, very much. The sauce that they cook the mussels in is the best I’ve ever tasted.

Last Saturday, I went to the new Paper Doll Boutique on Futlon Street for a party celebrating Paper Doll’s collaboration with LA brand Dimepiece. I also went to finally check out the store since I’ve never been.

Victoria, co-owner of Paper Doll, was wearing the collab piece, which features a photo of supermodels passed Tyra Banks and Cindy Crawford.

I was excited to see Raeana’s Naked Hearts on display! For more on that and the Dimepiece collaboration, look below…

The same year I moved to Clinton Hills was the same year I turned 16 and on my 16th birthday, I remember eating at Mojito, a Cuban restaurant not too far from my house. I was so happy to have a spot so close to where I lived that was sooooooo good! Somewhere around 2007, they changed management (or ownership, or got a new chef) and the food and service became… deplorable (sounds strong, right?). It was sad to say bye but I did. Until about two weeks ago.

LivingSocial.com had a deal for Mojito; spend $20 on a voucher and get $40 worth of food. Well, after the Fort Greene Festival on Saturday, I put that voucher to use and had dinner with some friends.

Before Friday, I hadn’t been to a spoken word performance since that Writer’s Block Anniversary Party back in ‘08. I went to the Nuyourican Poets Cafe for the first time with friends on Friday for a Poetry Slam. I was surprised by how long the line was when I got there (nearly reaching the corner from mid-block) so I anticipated the show to be good.

And it was. (Photo Credit: Larry Luv)
The first poetry slam ever in New York City was held at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in 1989, and 20 years later, we’ve become part of the cultural history of this city, still going strong. Today’s Nuyorican Poetry Slam is the result of our tradition of talented hosts, amazing performers and heart-stopping performances. Each one has helped to develop the legendary Poetry Slam reputation that is associated with the Cafe around the world. — via Nuyorican.org
The night was hosted by Chanel (not the regular host, Mahogany Browne) and featured artists from as close as New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and as far away as England (with slam judges from Australia!). You’re not supposed to take photos or videos in the space so, no previews here.
The Slam happens every Friday at 10pm and tickets are $10. As their site suggests, it’s a good idea to show up early. “The Nuyorican Friday Night Poetry Slam is pretty popular and fills up fast, so please get in line early. (suggested arrival latest 9:15pm).”

I’ve been writing about Rent the Runway here on AssataSAYS.com since its inception in late ‘09. I liked the company so much and was so pleased by the customer service that when I did my Get Fall Glam event at the Polish Bar of Brooklyn last fall, I asked Rent the Runway to be a sponsor. And so, they were.

Their dedication to loyal renters is ongoing. I received an e-mail from Emily at RTR on Monday saying that they were going to send me a free rental to enjoy this July. I’m sure you all know that I was EX-SIGHT-TED!
I sat flipping through page after page of dresses from designers like Tibi and Milly to Matthew Williamson and Herve Leger, picking my favorites and marking them as such. Here is one of my weekend picks.

One of my very close friends who is a recent graduate of Parson’s The New School of Design recently launched her website. Raeana (see Naked Hearts post) dually launched Raeana.com featuring her A/W 2010 and S/S 2011 collections and ShopRaeana.com with - you guessed it - her S/S collection for purchase.

My favorite piece is below…

LivingSocial.com has been better to me than Groupon, Signpost, and KGB these past couple of weeks. This morning, I got hit with yet another useful deal. I wrote about Soap.com back in February and how convenient a service it provides (shipping household goods to your home at discounted prices). Today, you can purchase a voucher on LivingSocial.com for $10 and receive a code that will allow you to spend $20 on Soap.com.

If you remember my original post about Soap and have been wanting to try them out, now is the time to do so. I’ve already purchased my deal. You have until 4am tomorrow, Tuesday, June 28, 2011 to purchase this deal before it expires. To get to it, click here.
Happy shopping.

I’ve averaged one pair of new shades every summer for the last three years. In 2008, there were the squared Michael Kors shades that replaced the vintage Gucci’s I got from my mom (I broke them after 3 years and stood on 5th and 55th CRYING my eyes out over it).
In 2009 there were the vintage, rimless Playboy glasses my grandma gave me. Last summer I bought a pair of all black Carrera glasses at that Carrera Escape event with Rhonesha and Cachee.
I started this summer very early with a new pair of glasses; a pair of Knockarounds.

There are two things that drew me to this tortoise shell pair:
(1) the price (of course!)
(2) the arms have spring hinges to keep them from stretching out and breaking easily (see: .gif below)
