My Week in Vegas

Tuesday, October 15th, 2013 at 8:11 pm

Last week, I celebrated my 25th birthday in Las Vegas with my mom. The day of my birthday was also the first day of lectures at the 2013 International Baking industry Exposition (IBIE). I used the week to take a much needed break from New York, to celebrate my 25th year on this earth, and to learn a little more to help grow my business.

Above is my week of food (some real and some fake) in pictures. The IBIE took over the north side of the Las Vegas Convention Center and filled it with some of the largest cooking, baking, and packing machinery as well as the sweetest pies I’ve ever tasted. I was in a bakers paradise.

Lovely isn’t it? To see more from my trip (including video from The Gun Store), look below…

Final #BakedbyAssataSAYS Bake Sale

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013 at 9:40 am

I am so grateful that I was able to do these bake sales this past summer. Because of them, many of my friends and family got an opportunity to come out and visit me. I also got a chance to meet many of me neighbors.

Thank you to everyone who came out over the summer, hung out with me, and supported my bake sales. The last one of the summer season (and probably the last public one of the year) is this Saturday! I hope to see you guys this weekend!

Tasting: Milk River Cafe

Friday, August 23rd, 2013 at 9:07 am

I was invited out by my friend Raeshon to see his band play at a tasting for a new restaurant on Atlantic Avenue this past Tuesday. As usual, I was glad to see RGK2 play but I was really happy about being able to try out a new restaurant in my neighborhood. So, my mom and I walked the few blocks over to try out Milk River.

The head chef and co-owner, La-Niece Lyew has also worked at Umi Nom (which is across the street from my house) and Mercer Kitchen (fancy!).

#BakedbyAssataSAYS Bake Sale, Part 3

Friday, July 19th, 2013 at 11:28 am

They say “third time’s the charm,” right? Well, I guess only time will tell if the third installment of my summer bake sale will be even more successful than the last two. In May it rained. In June I got a nasty sun burn on my shoulder. This time, I’m covering myself completely with sunblock and packing extra umbrellas! Rain or shine, this sale is going down! I hope to see you all there!

A Special Thank You

This past Saturday was my second #BakedbyAssataSAYS Bake Sale and I am happy to report that it was a success! I sold out of everything and got to see so many happy faces. The best part of the day was seeing everyone’s reaction after trying the samples. The macarons were a big hit.

Check out this Vine that Rhonesha posted at the sale:

I want to thank everyone who reblogged, and reposted, and retweeted, and regramed about the sale. I also want to thank everyone who came out in the blazing sun to buy stuff and hang out with me. I appreciate you all and I hope we can all do it again next month!

#BakedbyAssataSAYS Bake Sale, Part 2

Friday, June 7th, 2013 at 10:00 am

It’s back again! Last month I held my first, public bake sale. Things went well despite the persistant (and pretty annoying) rain but I’m very eager to see how much better things will be this time around. I’m anticipating even warmer weather since this one will take place in June.

For more info on pricing (I’m doing things a little differently than last month) and what will be available, look below…

It’s National Doughnut Day!

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013 at 10:00 am

…almost. National Doughnut Day is Friday and as usual, Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ Donuts is celebrating by giving away free doughnuts. My new, favorite doughnut spot, Dough, is also joining in on the festivities.

Dough has the BEST specialty doughnuts I’ve ever tasted and for every purchase you make on Friday, you’ll be entered to win 4 free doughnuts a week for a year! I’m still waiting to hear if this deal is good through the Smorgasburg Market in the Whole Foods on Bowery where Dough also sells. By the way, if you can make it to either location. try the Passion Fruit Donughnut with Cocoa Nibs (it’s my all time fav!).
