Low-Income Mercedes House Apartments

Although I’ll probably be living in the apartment I’m in now for the next 10 years (unless I have kids before then), I periodically check the NYC housing lotteries to see what’s out there. On NYC’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) website, advertisements for different places in the five boroughs are listed, sometimes including apartments in new, luxury buildings.

One of those listings now includes availabile apartments at Mercedes House on West 53rd/54th Street and 10th Avenue.

Available apartments now range from $3,450 for a one-bedroom to $4,450 for a two-bedroom. Through HPD’s 80/20 program, 20% of the apartments in the building are designated for low-income residents. Although the 20% will be paying considerably less than the 80% in rent, they have access to all the same amenities.

Residents of Mercedes House just don’t rent a home. With the extraordinary array of available amenities, they embrace a lifestyle: State-of-the-art wellness center and health club, on-site indoor parking, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, two outdoor decks with green space for sunbathing, bocce and yoga, indoor basketball, barbeque, boxing ring, golf simulator, screening room, volleyball, spa facilities. In a city that has it all, Mercedes House puts it all within reach. — via MercedesHouseNY.com

The listing, as it reads above, identifies 10 available apartments. I did some digging and got through to the office that handles the applications and there are only 9 apartments left.
