Well, not so much revisited for me since… I was NO WHERE around when that blackout happened. Umbro took inspiration from that period to commemorate the story of NY Cosmos’ Carlos Alberto’s US arrival to create the Blackout Collection.

It’s known as the city that never sleeps, but on July 13 1977 New York fell into complete darkness as a blackout swept over the entire area, plunging NYC into chaos. By coincidence, Brazilian defender Carlos Alberto Torres was arriving in the city at the same time to sign for the New York Cosmos football team… These two moments are the inspiration behind the Cosmos Blackout collection, which takes some of our most celebrated items and shapes them into a cool tonal range. All the products are black on black, but find flashes of colour and texture through the use of embroidery, UV responsive paint and reflective prints. — via Umbro

Well, not really. Catherine Malandrino wasn’t at Le Bain’s Scion sponsored Pool Party on Saturday but I was there, in the Catherine Malandrino free dress rental Rent the Runway sent me on Friday. I decided to dress it down with flats since the only thing I had planned for the weekend was work and the pool.

For more pics from Le Bain, pics of the dress, and more on how to rent it (or one just like it), look below…

Last Saturday, I went to the new Paper Doll Boutique on Futlon Street for a party celebrating Paper Doll’s collaboration with LA brand Dimepiece. I also went to finally check out the store since I’ve never been.

Victoria, co-owner of Paper Doll, was wearing the collab piece, which features a photo of supermodels passed Tyra Banks and Cindy Crawford.

I’ve been writing about Rent the Runway here on AssataSAYS.com since its inception in late ’09. I liked the company so much and was so pleased by the customer service that when I did my Get Fall Glam event at the Polish Bar of Brooklyn last fall, I asked Rent the Runway to be a sponsor. And so, they were.

Their dedication to loyal renters is ongoing. I received an e-mail from Emily at RTR on Monday saying that they were going to send me a free rental to enjoy this July. I’m sure you all know that I was EX-SIGHT-TED!
I sat flipping through page after page of dresses from designers like Tibi and Milly to Matthew Williamson and Herve Leger, picking my favorites and marking them as such. Here is one of my weekend picks.

One of my very close friends who is a recent graduate of Parson’s The New School of Design recently launched her website. Raeana (see Naked Hearts post) dually launched Raeana.com featuring her A/W 2010 and S/S 2011 collections and ShopRaeana.com with – you guessed it – her S/S collection for purchase.

My favorite piece is below…

I’ve averaged one pair of new shades every summer for the last three years. In 2008, there were the squared Michael Kors shades that replaced the vintage Gucci’s I got from my mom (I broke them after 3 years and stood on 5th and 55th CRYING my eyes out over it).
In 2009 there were the vintage, rimless Playboy glasses my grandma gave me. Last summer I bought a pair of all black Carrera glasses at that Carrera Escape event with Rhonesha and Cachee.
I started this summer very early with a new pair of glasses; a pair of Knockarounds.

There are two things that drew me to this tortoise shell pair:
(1) the price (of course!)
(2) the arms have spring hinges to keep them from stretching out and breaking easily (see: .gif below)

Just as often as I hear people say to me When’s the next sale? I hear Why don’t you post about more men’s stuff? Well, mostly because I have no use for menswear. But, when I hear about something so… deal-icious (see what I did there? hehehe!) I post about it. Now is one of those times.

Men’s streetwear company, Bonafide Icon is doing a giveaway that ends in 7 days. All you have to do to enter is:
1. Follow Bonafide Icon on Twitter
2. Email your name, shirt size, and fitted hat size to Contests@BonafideIcon.com

Some time ago, my Friend Raeana began designing and creating a collection of handmade brass pins. What started as something small has blossomed into one-of-a-kind creations benefiting Grammy Award winning artist, Estelle’s All of Me Foundation.

All made with exotic skins, and some even with Ostrich feathers, each unique pin is handcrafted.

You can purchase yours at NkdHearts.BigCartel.com.
