A couple of weeks ago I was interviewed by about my holiday baking. is a site that “helps you plan your event by taking the hassle out of finding, booking, and managing multiple vendors.” I’m one of the catering vendors, so, like DJ’s and photographers on the site, I’m able to submit bids to work with event planners.

Here’s a snippet from the interview:

Using baking as a form of self-expression, Assata tells us her ability to bake well comes from her love and passion for cooking. “There is a love there because people that love me were the ones who taught me about baking. I only bake what I like, and I share that with the people I love,” she says.

Thanks to Sarah from Fiestah for featuring me!! To read the entire article, click here.

“Priorities” with 3WCircle and HerAgenda

Monday, November 18th, 2013 at 9:46 am

When Rhonesha hosted her last event on Next Gen Women Leaders, I met Caroline Scheinfeld, founder of 3WCircle, “a circle of real women who have real conversations and form authentic connections.” Part of what 3WCircle does is “create, connect and curate authentic conversations and real relationships between real women” to fill the void for “a non-preachy support network that encourages women to be honest about what they want.”

photo 4

Last Tuesday I attended and helped cater an event for 3WCircle and HerAgenda. The conversation was “Love, Career, Babies, and Wellness: What Slices Are In Your Priority Pie?”

photo 4

photo 4

Guest speakers Kelly Hoey, Tai Beauchamp and Meryl Gabay all had some incredible words of wisdom which brought out a few spicy anecdotes from the other women in the room.

photo 4

Three of the most important things I was able to get from the evening were to (1) remember that prioriteis shift, (2) know that there is a difference between feelings and instinct (and to always listen to/trust that instinct), and that (3) the best way to deal with fleeting happiness is to give back.

The next 3WCirlce conversation on “how to give to ourselves and fulfill our desires and purpose” will take place on Tuesday, December 10. To request an invite to this conversation, click here.

My Week in Vegas

Tuesday, October 15th, 2013 at 8:11 pm

Last week, I celebrated my 25th birthday in Las Vegas with my mom. The day of my birthday was also the first day of lectures at the 2013 International Baking industry Exposition (IBIE). I used the week to take a much needed break from New York, to celebrate my 25th year on this earth, and to learn a little more to help grow my business.

photo 4

Above is my week of food (some real and some fake) in pictures. The IBIE took over the north side of the Las Vegas Convention Center and filled it with some of the largest cooking, baking, and packing machinery as well as the sweetest pies I’ve ever tasted. I was in a bakers paradise.

Lovely isn’t it? To see more from my trip (including video from The Gun Store), look below…

Final #BakedbyAssataSAYS Bake Sale

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013 at 9:40 am

I am so grateful that I was able to do these bake sales this past summer. Because of them, many of my friends and family got an opportunity to come out and visit me. I also got a chance to meet many of me neighbors.

Thank you to everyone who came out over the summer, hung out with me, and supported my bake sales. The last one of the summer season (and probably the last public one of the year) is this Saturday! I hope to see you guys this weekend!

#BakedbyAssataSAYS Bake Sale, Part 3

They say “third time’s the charm,” right? Well, I guess only time will tell if the third installment of my summer bake sale will be even more successful than the last two. In May it rained. In June I got a nasty sun burn on my shoulder. This time, I’m covering myself completely with sunblock and packing extra umbrellas! Rain or shine, this sale is going down! I hope to see you all there!
