Join the Nike Training Club

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 at 9:33 am

Sometime in December, Raeana told me about this new workout app she’d discovered for her iPhone and insisted that I get it. I wasn’t too open to the idea although I had been complaining for more than 6 months about how difficult it was to find a good exercise program.

One month later, and at least twice a week I’m posting images like the one above to my instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages. They’re all from the Nike Training Club app.

Just as the homepage describes, it’s the closest thing to having a personal trainer right at home. There are a series of workouts ranging from 15 to 45 minutes targeting whichever body part(s) you wish to concentrate on. Plus, the more time you clock on the app, the more workouts that are opened up to you including yoga and workouts created by celebrity trainers like Jeanetter Jenkins and Ary Nunez.

Oh yea… did I mention the app is FREE?

Babeland, Bust Magazine, and Baked by Assata for V-Day

Friday, January 27th, 2012 at 9:55 am

If you follow my Twitter or Instagram account, then you know that I love to bake. Well, I finally found a reason to bake without consuming everything I make like a fat ass healthy, growing, young woman. Last December, I baked my signature Sweet Potato Pie Bites for Babeland’s Holiday event with Burlesque artist Darlinda Just Darlinda.

I’m happy to announce that I’ve linked up with the pioneering toy store again for a Valentine’s Day event next month.

If any of you made it to Raeana’s Naked Hearts event a couple of weeks ago, then you know what to expect. For those of you who have yet to taste my sweets, you’re in for a treat. I hope to see you all there!

2011 Birthday Freebies

Monday, October 3rd, 2011 at 11:10 am

Happy Birthday to ME!! Well… almost. My birthday isn’t until Thursday but a few companies have been helping to plan my birthday feasts for the last two weeks.

birthday

For the last 2 years, I’ve done “Birthday Freebie” posts and every year, I find more stores/companies that give away items to their customers or e-mail registrants on their birthday. Instead of doing a long, drawn out list, I’ve compiled the regulars with a few newbies and what they’re offering up for WONDERFUL LIBRAS birthday-havers everywhere.

LUNCH
Moe’s Southwest Grill - Complimentary Entree

DINNER
Benihana - Free Meal (unfortunately, the Manhattan location is closed for renovations so there will be no Hibachi for me this year)

Brasserie 8 1/2 (Patina Group) - $50 off a meal of $50 OR more (Patina Group restaurants offering $50 off include Brasserie 8 1/2 and 6 others. Two more Patina Group restaurants offer $30 off.  For my [very] brief review of Brasserie 8 1/2, click here.)

Red Lobster - $5 off a two-person meal (CHEDDAR BAY BISUITS, HERE I COME!!)

DESSERT
Starbucks - Free Birthday Beverage (and other free promo items throughout the year; I got a post card about 2 weeks ago for a free bagel w/spread)

c4-2011-chocolate_babka

Panera Bread - Free Pastry or Sweet
Cold Stone Creamery - BOGO Free Creation (in years past, there was no “BOGO,” you would just get a free Like-It Creation)
Baskin Robbins - Free ice cream scoop

SHOPPING
ideeli.com - $25 credit
Rent the Runway - $20 credit
Daffy’s - 15% off (and 10% when you first register)
DSW - $5 off certificate

capture

Sephora - Varying free items (last year it was mascara and eye make-up, this year it’s shampoo, shower gel, and bubble bath)

Aside from finding more freebies every year, I also find more Libras (which in case you haven’t figure out, I am). Happy Birthday to all of the Libras celebrating another year on earth includinggggggg:

My bestie Raeana R.

My Nate Berkus Segment

Friday, September 16th, 2011 at 8:58 am

I was excited and anxious all day long waiting for my segment on The Nate Berkus Show to air and when it did, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. In case you missed it, I recorded the segment with my camera and uploaded it to YouTube. Check me out at the 4:50 mark. Sorry for the sucky sound quality. I tried.

Thanks again to Cara for making this possible! Fellow blogger and “thrift shopping guru” Patrice Williams was on the show talking about how to snatch great fashion pieces at remarkebly low prices. She did so great and got so many hits to her site following the shows airing that her site crashed! That is one happy problem for any blogger. Check her out at LookingFlyOnADime.com.

I was talking about my prior TV experiences earlier on Twitter and Dwight dug up this old clip of he, Raeana, and I at the TRL Awards 6 years ago. Check it out below…

Westside Pistol Range with Mom

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011 at 10:39 pm

Yesterday, my mom and I finally redeemed our KGB Deal for a trip to Westside Pistol Range. The closest I’d come to shooting a real gun before my trip to WPR was shooting targets for a crappy stuffed animal at Six Flags.

Assata R.

The Westside Pistol Range is the last indoor gun range in Manhattan. It’s normally $65 for a non-members first trip to the WPR but through KGB, my mom and I got to go for $32.50 a piece. We sat through a 30-minute instructional class on safety and basics on operating a Ruger 10/22 semi-automatic rifle.

After the class, we filled 5 magazines with 5 bullets each and had a chance at firing on a target. To see how well I did (including video!!) look below…

{UPDATED} The Nate Berkus Show

Friday, August 26th, 2011 at 12:30 pm

If you follow me on Twitter, then you know that I did something special yesterday. I was on The Nate Berkus Show! I’m going to be on a segment talking about the most financially sound way to re-do my kitchen.

img_0858

I always doubted what goes on behind the scenes of these shows but it seems as though Nate actually took a look at the photos from my apartment because his answer was spot on. What was his answer?

Hmmm…. I’m not telling you! You’ll have to wait until the show airs to see.

***UPDATE***

The shows’ production assistants e-mailed me earlier to say that the show will air next week Thursday, September 15, 2011.  For my readers here in the tri-state area, the show airs on NBC 4 at 3pm.  For anyone reading this outside of the tri-state area, please check your local listings and set your DVR’s!

For more pics and to see what I tweeted throughout my time at the studio (all of my tweets pretty much tell the story of my day), look below…

New Look, Part 2

Monday, March 28th, 2011 at 9:54 pm

Do any of you guys remember the first time I went short? Right after I graduated from Baruch, I decided to go for a new look and cut my hair short. My hairdresser Liv, formally of the Jospeh Tyler Salon worked her magic and gave me the cut which was just perfect for me… at the time.

What I’m Loving

Monday, February 14th, 2011 at 10:03 am

After a mini-rant on Twitter about how much I loved using Soap.com to order some household goods, I decided it would be best to post here exactly why. I figured, why not tell you guys about a couple of other things I’m feeling now.
soap.com
I ordered 30-count Zyrtec, and 4 different types of laundry detergent. Without coupons, all of that would have cost me about $45 between the supermarkets and pharmacys I frequent. With Soap.com, it all cost $35 (including taxes and shipping)! When my package game, there was a letter from the owners of Soap.com as well as two, pre-paid postage envelopes so that I could mail them my manufacturer coupons. Yes, they ALSO accept mfr. coupons.

In for the Fall

Monday, August 16th, 2010 at 1:09 pm

The last few weeks have been pretty hectic. I’m not even in New York right now. I’m not exactly… busy (see here) but I am moving about. That will probably come to a stop when the daily high switches from 90 to 70. I dislike the fall and winter months; they’re all too cold for my liking. Between late September and early April, I rush home to (normally) make dinner and catch “my shows.” In case any of you care what those are, here’s a list complete with premiere dates!
vampire-diaries
I’m MOST excited about the Vampire Diaries season premiere. It’s the only show that my mom and I enjoy together. I moved out months ago but on Thursday nights at 8, we both have our phones in hand and call each other during the breaks to discuss.

For more, look below…
