because he said....
I couldn't accomplish my goal...
Sorry folks. This is kind of an "inside joke". Years from now, if anyone still cares, I'll explain. That's also if I remember this by then.

a version of this song that didn't have anyone talking over it for an event coming up soon but I had no luck. I love this song. Seems very summer like. If I had a whip..... whoooo boy! It'd be a wrap!
Did you peep dude from Pacific Division in the beginning of the video? You know... the one I said looks like Tyler Perry a couple months ago?

Idk... it just seems right for now.
They thought he had a gunNow where did Dilla get that sample from? And btw.... I got a text message yesterday reminding me not to forget that we're supposed to wear black tomorrow.
Made-a-mistake-cops, I hate cops...
Now tell me who protects me from you?
J: It's real, yeah! It's like you can go through life and act like it's not but I deal with it everyday, for real, just riding in a nice car they'll fuck with you. Just being a black person in Detroit, it's so stupid.
Interviewer: What made you decide to take it upon yourself to get the message out there?
J: I don't think nobody's even saying it, saying enough about it. Like you see it on the news everyday, but it's like it goes right over their heads. People know that there's corrupt cops and cops do bullshit all the time and mothafuckas get pulled over 'cause of the colour of their skin, but it just seems to go over their heads. So I think it helps out a lot if you've got a little voice and somebody can hear it. Like I said, in Toronto people hear that and it puts them on some other shit like 'Damn, this gonna be some shit!' I just hope that gets across to the masses.

outraged, right?
"Power concedes nothing without a demand… it never did, and it never will. Find out just what the people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them.…"
— Frederick Douglass, August 4, 1857
NEW YORK (AP) -- Three detectives were acquitted of all charges Friday in the 50-shot killing of an unarmed groom-to-be on his wedding day, a case that put the NYPD at the center of another dispute involving allegations of excessive firepower.
Scores of police officers surrounded the courthouse to guard against potential chaos, and as news of the verdict spread, many in the crowd began weeping. Others were enraged, swearing and screaming "Murderers! Murderers!" or "KKK!"
Bell, a 23-year-old black man, was killed in a hail of gunfire outside a seedy strip club in Queens on Nov. 25, 2006 as he was leaving his bachelor party with two friends.
Officers Michael Oliver, 36, and Gescard Isnora, 29, stood trial for manslaughter while Officer Marc Cooper, 40, was charged with reckless endangerment. Two other shooters weren't charged. Oliver squeezed off 31 shots; Isnora fired 11 rounds; and Cooper shot four times.
The case brought back painful memories of other NYPD shootings, such as the 1999 shooting of Amadou Diallo - an African immigrant who was gunned down in a hail of 41 bullets by police officers who mistook his wallet for a gun. The acquittal of the officers in that case created a storm of protest, with hundreds arrested after taking to the streets in demonstration.
"I hoped it would be different this time. They shot him 50 times," Hardgraves said. "But of course, it wasn't."
Justice Arthur Cooperman delivered the verdict in a packed Queens courtroom. The officers, complaining that pretrial publicity had unfairly painted them as cold-blooded killers, opted to have the judge decide the case rather than a jury.

Remember last week when I wrote about the panel thing I did with Teen Vogue? It was the same day I went to The Roots' video shoot. Well... Tracy (one of the head marketing people at Teen Vogue) sent me a little gift for participating.
Yup... that's a Marc by Marc Jacobs time piece. It's pretty! And geez did I need it. I never know what time it is when I'm at work. I think they do that on purpose!

of this in the Hip-Hop class I took over the winter. I have an opinion on the whole "80's baby" thing and it comes really close to what my dad has to say.
So far your parties are “WACK!”To read more of his rant, look down below.
The dudes are wearing gear that only the girls wore in the 80’s. Guys didn’t dance with each other. Guys didn’t come in groups larger than four (4). If you were a real bad dude your group was even smaller. If you were a real fly dude your group was smaller. Only girls came in groups of twelve (12).
If you were a dude into some real grimy or illegal shit, you moved alone and you tried really hard to be invisible. You weren’t the loudest mother fucker in the place.
If you are going to give a 80’s party pleas hire a consultant. (I’m available). All of this came from his MySpace bulletin.

And the music that’s being played, if it’s from the 80’s it’s not the shit that would have been played at a hip hop party. When you guys do play the right artist you play the wrong songs.
Also, the DJ didn’t get on the mic and ask if girls had on clean drawls. That would have been considered juvenile, and simply unnecessarily rude, as it still is today.
Although cocaine may be synonymic with the 80’s it’s not something a DJ would be making open reference to on the microphone. Any coke dealer in the place would be asking “what the fuck is he doing?”.
Adults, young adults, and teens in the 1980’s may have been short sighted. May be too optimistic. May be too caught up in their times. However, they weren’t mindless idiots.
Although the public school system was shit, we did study more than LUNCH. And we had music studies, most of us understood music and could play at least one instrument.
Perhaps I’ll post a list of the “do’s” and the “do not’s” with a music play list for those considering doing this type of party.
As it stands, these parties should be called “CRACK BABY” parties. Cause only a crack baby could screw up a history that should be currently living in their households i.e. the Moms, Pops, Aunts, Uncles who lived the 80‘s.
If you were born in the 80’s and are celebrating that, you should be playing the music of the mid to late 90’s caused that’s what you partied to in school. If you are going to do the 80’s do it right………with out the guns.
As a side note: Back then the Jamaicans didn’t smoke nothing that came close to the shit y’all smoking today. That shit y’all smoking smells like burning hair mixed with human flesh and finger nails doused with some weird perfume. Y’all smoke weed like it’s crack, that should be a hint that something isn’t right with that shit.

Yea yea yea... I know. It's technically Sunday but whatever. I work hard and I don't get home until late so my posts will come late every once in a while.
Anyway... I'm up late surfing the net and watching an old episode of Soul Train and Herp Alpert just performed Rise. I love this song. They used to play it on (what used to be) CD 101.9 and that was the ONLY station my grandmother would play when I was younger so I know this song pretty well. I'd never noticed that one of the greatest rappers of all time used a sample from this song in one of his most famous singles. Can you guess who used it and for what song?
"Biggie Biggie Biggie can't you see, sometimes your words just hypnotize me!!" Yup... it was the late great Biggie Smalls for Hypnotize. In case you didn't read my post about the casting for the Biggie Smalls movie due out either later this year or next year, click here. You may get some face time in the movie if you do.

a very long and fun filled day. Thank goodness spring is here or I wouldn't be able to handle all of this running around!
Here are a couple of pics from the day. Read on for more on the exciting stuff.
I went to school this morning and on my first break, I took a trip over to Norwood on the west side for a Teen Vogue panel discussion. Thanks Nesh for the heads up and thanks Tracy for having me.
I got to talk about myself for an hour which was fun! It always is!
After I left the panel discussion, I headed over to the east side. I went to meet up with Nic at The Roots video shoot for "Rising Up" off of their upcoming album, Rising Down. "Rising Up" features DC rapper Wale and Chrisette Michelle.
Thank you Nic for taking all of these pics! Rik Cordero was the director... again. He also directed the last two videos from Rising Down. Erika from Street CoSignor also passed through and took a really nice pic of me. (WINK WINK... I want that pic girl) Eventually I'll create a photo account to link to my blog so you guys can flip through more of my pics. For now, here's a video clip of one of the scenes. Thank you Jeremy for taking this for me!
"Good rappers ain't eatin', they Olsen twinin!" Wale is so cool even my mom likes him! HA!! To hear the rest of the song, you can click right here! I'm really excited for Rising Down to be released and I NEVER get excited about stuff like this.
UPDATE....
Here's a link to see the rest of the pics from the day. ENJOY!!

experience sidekick withdrawl need to give up ur sk or pda rigt now!
While vacationing in Trinidad last week, I was with 2 of my close friends all the time so we HAD to talk to each other. None of us could get service on our cell phones and neither of them could use their sidekicks. One friend went into what is known as "Sidekick Withdrawal." Definitely not cool. Believe it or not, she began twitching and scratching her neck in the same fashion as a coke fiend would.
A while back, Nesha did a post about how one of her friends refused to put down her sk even as the dentist was working on her. Here's a snippet from her blog.Luv Lern Bank: Yea man im in the chair getting wrked on
Luv Lern Bank: Im still on my sk
Luv Lern Bank: Im addicted
----------------------- 5:43 pm -----------------------
NESHA: Lol woooow
NESHA: That's VERY wild
Not a good look at all. In order to keep her anonymity, I didn't get her face in this shot (even though you can figure out who it was because I only went with 2 of my friends).

For some reason I am EXTREMELY excited about figuring this one out. This song has so much history for me so I'm happy to share this one with you guys in particular. I'm on Brooklyn Bodegas e-mail list so I get their hip-hop trivia questions everyday. Today the question was:
"[What] Boston MC created the hits ‘Bugaboo’ and ‘Be A Father To Your Child’."
The answer was of course Ed OG. I started searching my iPod for "Be a Father to Your Child" because I wanted to hear it and then I realized it wasn't on there. So I'm searching online for a video or something and I found the real video for the song (not a youtube clip of pics flashing with the song playing in the background).

or younger OR are still into Teen Vogue, you may be interested in hitting up this event.
Teen Vogue is holding a clothing swap (aka Style Swap) on Sunday, May 4, 2008. The difference between this swap and the Collecther ones I tell you guys about it that you're not swapping exclusively with other swappers. The Teen Vogue event site says that swappers can bring "up to 10 pieces of gently-worn clothing from your closet, and swap for clothing from sponsors, Teen Vogue's fashion closet, and fellow NYC fashionistas." Sounds good to me!
The only sponsors for the event listed on the site are Maidenform (they do really good bras), Journey's, and Neutrogena. They should make some pretty good gift bags. You do have to purchase tickets for the event and they're $12. That's not too bad if Teen Vogue isn't stingy with the good stuff they've used in their spreads.
Sunday, May 4, 2008
The Metropolitan Pavilion
135 West 18th Street
btwn 6th and 7th Avenue
New York, NY
You have to RSVP for time slots. The time slots are all 3 hours long and run from 1pm to 6pm. Click here to RSVP. For more info on the event, click here or visit TeenVoguePromo.com.

excited about a movie since Superbad.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall comes out next week! Friday, April 18, 2008... I have my fingers crossed that I don't have to work on that day (or the day after) so I can go to the movies. In case you've been living under a rock...
I wanted to post about how Spring is FINALLY here. We've been experiencing some rather NICE weather this week and I've been paying attention to the trees (like I do every year) and the leaves or whatever are budding!!! With Spring's much needed comeback, I'll definitely be running the streets a little bit more and I'm really excited that Habana Outpost is reopening. I've lived in the neighborhood for a few years now and it's crazy how many places I HAVEN'T visited yet. I read the reviews for Habana Outpost which is a restaurant that doubles as a flea market during the day, and they weren't so good. I have heard that they don't card so heavy though so...
Anyway, hopefully I'll be able to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall and hit up Habana Outpost for some over priced plantains and a hot dog!! YESSSS... SPRING IS HERE!

a fancy way to help the environment and shop at Barney's with a pretty good discount, I may have found the answer for you.
Barney's has a promotion going on with Loomstate, to give you 20% off your purchase of "Loomstate for Barney's Green" and "Men's Loomstate" products when you donate your old tees to Barney's.
I bought this Loomstate coat from a Barney's sale earlier this year. Before buying it, I knew nothing about the company.
In case you don't know about the company either, here's a snippet from their site."Loomstate was founded as a casual brand dedicated to creating demand for certified organic cotton using socially and environmentally responsible methods of production."
The "Loomstate for Barney's Green" items on the Barney's site aren't so interesting to me. A bunch of cotton tees, thermals, and some jeans. I did find a cute jacket though. Kind of expensive but you know.... whatever. To view the jacket, click here. If you want to participate, act fast. The discount will only be available for use between Sunday, April 13, 2008 and Sunday, April 27, 2008.

I think you bid based on the items you bring to swap. IDK

I had some friends over and one of them later said "Thanks for having me over for the shindig." I didn't consider what I had to be a shindig and told him so. Then I looked up the actual word. Here's the definition I found.
shin·digI just wanted to let you guys know that the REAL SOCIALITES will be back in full effect this summer with yet another shindig. We've been on a mini-hiatus for the last few months. You guys know that we're all in school, working, and making moves but not to worry. We'll be back to entertaining the community with our company and events this summer so be on the look out.
Pronunciation: \ˈshin-ˌdig\
Function: noun
Etymology: probably alteration of shindy
Date: 1842
1 a: a social gathering with dancing b: a usually large or lavish party

Bossip the other day and saw one of those banner ad things on the side of the screen that said something about Flavor Flav and yet ANOTHER show. I navigated away from the page so fast without realizing it and I couldn't go back to see the ad. I was back on Bossip today and I saw the banner again. After doing a teeny bit of research, look what I found.
WHO THE HELL THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE FUNNY?!!?? No really... who thought that this was a good idea?!? I feel so lost right now. This is why I stick to chan
