it doesn't say...

21 and older but since I'm probably going to be working that day anyway and probably won't go, I'm going to assume it is.

Mass Appeal is releasing their 50th issue and they're celebrating the release with a party at Rebel. Killer Mike and the cuteness that is K.I.D Cudi will be performing.

Thursday, April 10, 2008
10pm to 4am
Rebel NYC
251 West 30th Street
btwn 7th & 8th Avenue

And here's a mini update on me. By putting it on my blog, I'm making this official which means I can't go back on my word. I will NOT be going to summer school this year. I'm kind of sad because I wont be so far ahead of the game anymore but I'll finally get a chance to relax. This also means that I will DEFINITELY be partying it up this summer. With only work to worry about, I can do as I please without any real stress. UM HUM! SEE YOU THIS SUMMER!!!!

I try not to post..

things if I'm not sure of their validity but I didn't want to leave you guys out in the cold about this one. Supposedly, N.E.R.D. is having a video shoot.

We all know that one of the songs from their upcoming album was leaked or released or whatever. (In case you've been living under a rock, click here to hear it.) Well I'm guessing that this shoot is for that song.

I know the pic is kinda tiny but it's basically asking for skater dudes and loose chicks. It also says to send photos to nerdcasting@gmail.com.

For some reason, I find this to be shady. I don't know why. Just a gut feeling. I'm going to try to find out from my sources whether or not this is legit. Otherwise, I advise you guys to proceed with caution. If you do end up getting picked or going or whatever, try to take some pics and let us know how it went.
Thanks Stef for the info!

I'm sorry my posts....

have been light but I just got back from my vacation in Trinidad the other day. I've been trying to catch up with my life back here in New York so I won't be posting too heavy until the weekend rolls back around.

To cheer you up, here are some April Fool's Pranks to get you through...

"Me and the two other girls in our office scraped out the cream on Oreo cookies and replaced it with toothpaste (and we colored it orange for Halloween). We arranged it all on a plate really nicely, with other candy, and took it down to the other depts. They laughed but told us they would be on the lookout next year!" -- via Asylum

Mama is looking real familiar.

Mama (photo via nitro:licious)

I don't know why but there seems to be a lot of copying going on. Or maybe its's just that "great minds think alike." I noticed the similarities right away and of course, 10Deep did it first. You can peep the rest of the stuff from Mama's Spring 2008 line here.

the new york times has....

so much to offer. I found this article in the style section the other day on RateMyProfessor.com and I found it really interesting. For all of you who don't know what RateMyProfessor.com is, it's a site where you can rate the professors you've had and read the ratings of the professors you may get before registering for their class. That way you know what to expect and who to avoid.

"When scholars were recently given the chance to refute student criticism posted
on the Web site RateMyProfessors.com, a cult-hit television series, “Professors
Strike Back,” was born. The show, which has professors responding on camera to
undergraduate gripes such as “boring beyond belief,” made its debut in October
on mtvU, a 24-hour network broadcast to more than 7.5 million students on
American college campuses." -- via NYTimes.com

"When David Linton, a communication-arts professor at Marymount Manhattan
College, was asked in “Professors Strike Back” to respond to a student who said
his class was 'not a happy learning experience,' he said in part: 'What the hell
does that mean? Who the hell said it was supposed to happy? I hope it’s good. I
hope it’s stimulating.'" -- via NYTimes.com
I don't have the patience to sit and write any reviews on professors. I know that my opinion will be biased and everyone's expeience with a professor is different. I do try to read the reviews before the semester starts. I don't get mtvU and I dont't think anyone else who lives at home gets it either. If you've seen Professors Strike Back, drop a line and let the rest of us know how it is.

This one is more of a lyrical sample. I'm not so much into music and lyrical composition so I wont pretend to be. I'm sure that some of you will be able to pick up on this one though. As soon as I heard the original, I was able to figure it out. ENJOY!

That's right. It's "Big Homie" again(that is what you guys call him , right?). I don't know if I'm using the right term but he sampled Slick Rick's form with many parts of this song. Take a listen.

has gained landmark status.

"Webster Hall, an East Village concert venue that has hosted union rallies, lavish masquerade balls and performers from Woody Guthrie to Madonna over its colorful 122-year history, became a New York City landmark Tuesday." -- via WNBC

122 years is along time. I don't know how long Empire Rolelr Skating Rink was there but they should have declared that a landmark.

Here's some more on WH from WNBC.
"During Prohibition, Webster Hall became a speakeasy. Later, it became a venue for such singers as Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, and, in the 1980s, for rock stars like Tina Turner, Prince and Sting. Madonna held a pajama party there in 1995 that was broadcast on MTV. It is now a dance club."

lookbook is up. It's sad how nice the stuff is but it doesn't translate into enough pieces for women. :(

Like always, 10Deep's crew doubled as models. Kidz in the Hall as well as skateboarders German Nieves and Jamal Smith also modeled.

"The "Blue Collar Blue Bloods" collection is divided into two deliveries- each with their own separate lookbook. The first delivery, entitled "Champion Life," references vintage Polo, collegiate culture, and the secret cliques of High Society. Additions to the line this season include new styles of denim, rubber-coated fabrics, and technical outerwear." -- via 10Deep

remind me to tell you about the free prom dress giveaway.

There's a non-profit organization called Operation Fairy Dust which was created in 2002 to "provide NYC high school girls in need, with formal prom dresses. This gives them the ability to attend their prom with confidence, and an increased level of self-esteem." -- via OFD

I got one of my prom dresses from a giveaway they held in 2006. It saved me a LOT of money I didn't have. I went to two proms my senior year so I had twice as much stuff to worry about. I believe that all of the dresses that are given away are donated but they're pretty strict with the type of garments they accept. My dress was nice enough that I could have worn in to my prom. I was just extra paranoid about someone else having on my dress.

If you know anyone who is in high school and will be in need of a prom dress this spring, send them my way. I'm going to keep my ears open to find out when the next giveaway is. For now, the only thing I could dig up was the flyer above for a clothing swap they're doing. It's all for a good cause so if you have the means to do so, go and trade in some of your things for someone else's benefit.

I found this mini-article....

in the New York Times rather intriguing.

photos via The New York Times

Are murses okay?

"The bag is the new hat. That was confirmed on a trip to Paris, where plenty of men had traded in their fur trappers, watch caps and beanies for handsome leather carryalls. Weighty and capacious, they nudged aside the canvas backpack as a totem of hipster chic. Some were purely practical, large enough to transport documents, spare sneakers or, if need be, the contents of one’s medicine chest. Others conveyed heaps of status." -- via The New York Times
Recently, I've noticed men carrying bags (aka murses or man-bags). I've been wondering, when is the line crossed between metro-sexual and uhhh... gay? I asked Raeana what she thought about men carrying bags and she said it was cool. I trust her opinion because of her experience in fashion design. Then I asked would her boyfriend ever carry one and she said hell no.

So if a dude is carry a murse (which is further defined as anything that's not ugly and isn't a bookbag), could it just be that he has style? Or could it be that he's suspect? Any thoughts?

this is EXACTLY why...

I won't be blogging the week I'm gone.

I told you guys I wouldn't do another J Smooth video for a while and I didn't. It was partially because he stopped blogging due to his trip to Turkey. In the video above he talks about not being able to really experience a moment because of being too busy trying to document it. I realized that this happens pretty often. I want to be able to COMPLETELY enjoy my time away from New York so I'm leaving everything behind. I'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to take my cell phone or not.

I love blogging and I'm appreciative of all of my readers but like many of you, I need a break from life. Don't worry... I'll be back on the "grind" as soon as I get back. My heart won't let me stay away too long.
